Interesting week, the USD breakout continued, and USDJPY joined in with a break above key resistance. That level had stood since December 2022. Due to the USD strength and JPY weakness, we saw a mixed week from the risk majors to the safe havens.

Mainly risk markets took a breather this week, despite CPI and PPI data coming in lower than expected. CPI Year-on-year dropped to 4.9% and while high, continues the trend of better figures. Traders are speculating if we might now see a hold from the Fed in the next meeting.

This week has been marred by ranges and low volatility across multiple classes, with sellers continuing to take control from yesterday. Oil and Cryptos started the slump earlier in the week with solid moves lower. Oil dropped over 6%, Bitcoin over 7%, and Ethereum over 8%.

US inflation was in focus this week, with US CPI and PPI being released. The data came in lower than expected and combined with fed comments suggesting the banking crisis might not be over yet and could also be a US recession risk, this did the USD no favors, and it continues...
